Apology

February 9th, 2005

My spam filters seem to be blocking a lot of legitimate comments. I’ll look into this. In the meantime, apologies to all those affected.

This one at Sailing Close to the Wind seems to be working well, John.

I installed it this afternoon in about 10″ and haven’t had any comment or trackback spam (touch wood) for 6 hours or so which is a record!

Kitten’s Spaminator has been working wonders for me. The main trick with it was to leave URLs at 5 in the wordpress options, otherwise the spaminator didn’t have a chance to get at them.

John, you’ll find that the builtin wordpress antispam deal works pretty well. IF you are using 1.5. You can add IPs to the blacklist or moderation list as well as individual words and URLs. I have found that I have no need of plugins anymore. My lis is pretty short, and I add maybe one or two items a week, but nothing is getting past moderation, I have URLs restricted to 2 in any post. I’m considering dropping that to 1. I have not had to delete a comment for a few weeks now. I found Spaminator was not especially effective, perhaps cp’s suggestion might make it more so.
