Hi John,
Just read your Guardian piece on steelmaker bailouts. You don’t seem to have considered the proximity of war in keeping metalmakers going. The UK govt bailed out an Indian-owned steelmaker here, also with the intention of modernising the facility. They are Britain’s only steelmaker, and in the event of war, one really wouldn’t want to rely on imports from potential enemies. Although the EU seems happy to keep relying on Russian gas.
Of course, this wasn’t mentioned here either as a reason to keep making UK steel, but it has to have been a thought in the process.

Those LNP windbags, Dutton and Morrison, promised us a gas led recovery. It now seems that all this reflux was caused by economic indigestion with Santos being the bad boy in the mix.
The connection between Santos and LNP should be properly examined.

Amazing numbers of protestors in the “No Kings” rally. Even in deep red towns and cities.
No Kings has come under some criticism, mostly quibbling about semantics.
But the beauty of the meme is that it isn’t personal, it’s a declaration by the masses of their support for democracy.
Hopefully Congress might stir sufficiently to ensure that democracy is protected.
