Comment spammers have somehow got around my IP banning and have rendered the display of recent comments largely useless. I’ll try to fix this as soon as I can.

Jay Allen has produced an excellent Movable Type plugin called MT-Blacklist, which is very effective against comment and trackback spam. I’ve installed it on John’s blog, and would recommend other bloggers do the same.
I hope he’s fixed it up a bit; I installed it on the Ubersportingpundit domain and it clogged up the entire system. If you’ve ever wondered why the comments on Troppo Armadillo and the other sites take a long time to go through, that is why.
I’ve not had any problems on my new blog, and nor does John’s seem slow.
dont worry…MT 3.0 will be out soonish, and has comment registration, so hopefully this BS will go away…
Jay Allen has taken MT-Blacklist through several revisions, and the delays appear to be a thing of the past. Really, try it. It’s worked very well for us.
I’ve heard MT version 3 is not far away so I will wait until then and upgrade. I’ve been too flat out to do much tech work lately.
None of which, by the way, should be taken to be against Jay Allen and his work, which I appreciate has been a boon to bloggers and their readers. His work is worthy of recognition.
I installed MT-Blacklist this morning after the latest round of spam attacks on my blog. It works extremely well, and was very easy to install, even for someone as computer-challenged as myself. Installation, reading the documentation and getting rid of a half dozen or so spam messages took 40 minutes, including about 10 minutes on the phone to my system administrator. I’d recommend it.
