The pursuit of happiness

My view of the US is probably overly influenced by Hollywood, but I had the impression that the right to marry your high school sweetheart was a crucially important instance of the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness set out in the Declaration of Independence. If so, it seems as if there’s a contradiction between this and this.

  1. No, no, no.

You’re thinking of the right for a teenaged boy to marry his yunger sister (or his grandmother), and even then only in certain states. It’s all something to do with a deficiency of alcohol among the young.

  2. Less Hollywood in future, more Jerry Springer.

You can still marry your highschool sweetheart from your single-sex school, but one of you wil need to have a sex change prior to marrying.
