Sandpit

A new sandpit for long side discussions, conspiracy theories, idees fixes and so on.

To be clear, the sandpit is for regular commenters to pursue points that distract from regular discussion, including conspiracy-theoretic takes on the issues at hand. It’s not meant as a forum for visiting conspiracy theorists, or trolls posing as such.

  1. Stagnation seems to be gripping the Chinese economy. If this follows the trend seen in Japan after the mid 1990s, the global economy could face a long term contraction. That means that business cycles will lengthen and any recession will be protracted. Stagnation is very difficult to eliminate and may cause structural change in an economy. If that happens in China then structural change may also occur in global supply chains. If that happens then low cost production of certain consumer durables may be lost temporarily. In the long run, not even the slowdown of production in China will stop economic growth but it may reduce its longevity.

    Ipso facto.

  2. COVID exceptionalism.

Getting infected in hospital is bad. Except if it’s COVID. Then apparently it is all right. Even if 10% of hospital patients infected with COVID-19 while in hospital then die. When did the authorities in charge of all this get so stupid? I mean the politicians, health administrators and medical profession. Seriously. When did they all get so stupid? What has made them stupid? Their positions and income depend on their toeing the COVID-is-over line dictated by big business and the rich so that the circuits of capital to keep flowing into their pockets. They don’t care how many die. Our leading professions have sold out. Completely.
