Another Monday Message Board. Post comments on any topic. Civil discussion and no coarse language please. Side discussions and idees fixes to the sandpits, please.
I’m now using Substack as a blogging platform, and for my monthly email newsletter. For the moment, I’ll post both at this blog and on Substack. You can also follow me on Mastodon here.
A while ago I made a comment on one of JG’s Notes about how easy it is to move from The Evil Empires (MS and Apple) to Linux. Arnold Bosman, on Substack, tells how he did it How I replaced Microsoft Windows and Office in a single day

I hope Joe doesn’t mind me adding a link to support his comment:

Apologies that Linkedin has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft since 2016. Also, some wag criticised Bosman’s use of ChatGPT to create an illustration. I guess complete dis-embedding (if that’s the term) takes a while. But substantial dis-embedding is clearly possible quickly for the multi-OS literate person or a contractor.
I am stuck on MS. But then I make no professional use of the PC, am not computer literate anymore, if I ever was, and have no databases.
The main point stands. We (the rest of the world) can’t depend on the US anymore, for anything, ever. Note, in the context broader than IT that does not mean that depending on China (for example) is a good idea either.
